Simon Wins Medal at D-2 State Meet; Rodriguez Sets CHS Mark
Chelsea High track star Emmanuel Simon brought home a fourth-place medal at the recent Division 2 State Meet with a triple jump of 42’-1.5”.
Emmanuel’s stellar performance qualified him for the All-State Meet, in which he finished in 14th place with a final landing of 41’-11.5”.
Simon also competed in the 100 meter dash at the D-2 Meet, coming across the line in 28th place with a sprint of 11.91 seconds.
A number of other Red Devils also competed in the D-2 Meet, which requires achieving a qualifying performance during the regular season.
Teammate Jeffrey Ponce finished in 15th place in the shot-put with a toss of 41’-7.75”.
Ali Warsame placed 23rd in the 200 meter event with a dash of 23.78.
The Red Devil 4 x 100 relay quartet of Simon, Warsame, Nasir Adams, and Gary Giron placed 14th in the field with a clocking of 46.32.
On the girls side, Gizelle Rodriguez capped an outstanding outdoor season by competing in three events at the D-2 Meet.
Gizelle set a new CHS school record in the javelin with a throw of 89’-11”, which was good for 15th place in the D-2 field.
Gizelle placed 14th in the 400 dash with a time of 1:02.83 and 30th in the 800 with a clocking of (2:30.55).
