Alfred Konieczka, Sr.

April 5, 1927 –  June 12, 2019

Alfred S. Konieczka, Sr. of Peabody, formerly of Chelsea, died on June 13. He was 92 years old.

A US Army Veteran of World War II and a member of PAV Post 13 Chelsea, he was the beloved husband of 68 years to Alice S. (Dekofski) Konieczk, devoted father of Alfred S. Konieczka, Jr. of Peabody, Karen Divino and her husband, Emidio of Taunton, Susan Igo and her husband, Frederick of Ayer, Paul Konieczka and his wife, Jean of Merrimack, NH, and Linda A. Puskaruk and her husband, Gregory of Newmarket, Ontario; dear brother of the late Catherine Smigielski, Anna V. Garniewicz, Mary Palladino, Lucy Garniewicz and Walter and Thaddeus “Ted” Konieczka. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were by Anthony Memorial – Frank A. Welsh & Sons Funeral Home, Chelsea.  Interment was at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105 or The Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Pl. West, Brookline, MA 02445.

Olympia Cardillo

April 5, 1937 – June 12, 2019

Olympia (Nardizzi) Cardillo of East Boston died in Chelsea on June 12.

The beloved wife of the late Joseph A. Cardillo, she was the devoted mother of Sharon Scapicchio and her husband, Stephen of East Boston, Vincent Cardillo and his wife, Helene of Winthrop, Joseph Cardillo of Providence, RI, Michael Cardillo and his wife, Nancy of Middleton and John Cardillo and his wife, Chrisann of Center Conway, NH; dear sister of James Nardizzi of Chelsea and cherished grandmother of Stephen, “Em” Scapicchio, Michael Cardillo, Matthew Cardillo and Madison Cardillo.

Funeral arrangements were by the Anthony Memorial – Frank A. Welsh & Sons Funeral Home, Chelsea. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Chelsea Jewish Lifecare, 17 Lafayette Ave., Chelsea, MA 02150.

Vincent Maroney

Of Chelsea

Vincent E. Maroney of Chelsea died on June 13.

He was the devoted husband of Maryann (Filipiak) Maroney, beloved father of Raymond Loesch and his wife, Donna of Taunton, Richard Loesch and his wife, Christine of Everett, Brian Loesch of Everett and Theresa Pedro of Revere; brother of Robert Maroney and Mary Maroney, both of New York and the late Gertrude “Trudy” Schoenmann, cherished grandfather of nine including the late Ashley Loesch. He also leaves four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were by the Smith Funeral Home, 125 Washington Avenue, Chelsea. Committal Services private. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care, 20 Mall Road, Suite 450, Burlington, MA 01803-4129.

Alfred Duval, Jr.

Longtime Chelsea Soldiers Home resident

Alfred J. Duval, Jr. passed away at the Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett on Friday, June 7. He was 70 years old.

Born in Everett, he was raised in Chelsea and was a lifelong resident of the city. 

The only son of the late Alfred J. Duval, Sr. and Winifred (Hayes) Duval,  Alfred attended local schools and graduated from Chelsea High School.  He enlisted in the US Air Force, served honorably during the Vietnam Era and was discharged in 1971 at the rank of Sergeant.  He worked for many years as a freight elevator operator at the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston.  

Alfred was a longtime dormitory resident at the Chelsea Soldiers Home and was a good friend to many there.

In addition to his parents, Alfred was also predeceased by his only sister, Marie Weiss. He was the beloved father of Alfred Duvall III of Billerica, Georgette Hussien of Chelsea and Ashley Duval of West Roxbury.  He is also survived by five grandchildren.

Family and friends are kindly invited to attended graveside services with military honors on Thursday, June 20, at 11 a.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery 302 Elm St., Everett. Arrangements were given to the care and direction of the Anthony Memorial – Frank A. Welsh & Sons Chelsea.
