Dead Bird into Lounge
On June 1, a CPD officer was dispatched to 73 Winnisimmet St. for a report of a disturbance. The calling party stated he was hosting a private event at the new Lounge when a male and female walking by reached into the establishment’s open window and dropped an injured bird on the table. A CPD officer spotted the two and approached the couple, but the male party fled on foot. The officer was able to stop and identify the female party. She stated she was walking with a male party that she just recently met and could not provide any information about him. She stated they observed the injured bird in the roadway, and the male party thought it would be funny to grab the bird and place it inside the restaurant while making a video. CPD is investigating the identity of the male, and will be seeking complaints in Chelsea District Court for the identified female.
Larceny Suspect
On May 22, officers responded to 227 Broadway for a follow-up investigation of a larceny from a building that occurred at that location on May 21. Officers were able to identify the suspect from the video footage of the larceny. Officers responded to the address of the subject at 207 Shurtleff St. and placed him under arrest.
Derek Sands, 34, of 207 Shurtleff St., was charged with larceny from a building.
Wrong Way on Chestnut
On May 22, at 5 p.m., officers in the area of Fourth and Chestnut Streets observed a vehicle operating erratically exiting the Fourth Street off-ramp. They observed a gray Acura speeding on Chestnut Street in the wrong direction. The vehicle was stopped and the officers formed the opinion that the operator was operating under the influence of alcohol and placed into custody.
Erick Hernandez, 24, of Methuen, was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol.
