CHS girls track team wins three contests

The Chelsea High girls outdoor track & field team enjoyed a successful week, winning all three of its meets against Commonwealth Athletic Conference opponents.

The Lady Red Devils’  80-51 victory over Greater Lowell was highlighted by a new school record set by Ana Chang in the 400 hurdles with a time of 69.8 seconds. Ana also won the 400 dash in a clocking of 61.2.

Other notable performances for Chelsea were turned in by Stephanie Simon, who won three events, the long jump, high jump, and 100 dash; Ana Severino, who captured the triple jump; Jessica Martinez who won the discus; Yarid Deras, who triumphed in the mile; and Jocelyn Poste, who won two events, the 800 and the javelin.

The Lady Red Devils engaged in a tri-meet earlier in the week with Northeast Regional and Mystic Valley, defeating both rivals. Chelsea topped NE by a score of 71-62 and MV by a score of 80-44.

Leading the way for the Lady Red Devils was Stephanie Simon, who won four events, the 100 dash, 200 dash, long jump, and high jump, against both opponents.

Yaris Deras outran the field to capture the mile against both rivals, as did Jocelyn Poste in the 800.

Coach Cesar Hernandez and his squad are scheduled to take on Shawsheen and Essex Tech in a trip-meet on Tuesday.

Three homes games for CHS baseball team

Nate Rosario enjoyed a banner day at the plate for the Chelsea High baseball team in its contest with O’Bryant High last week.

Nate hit for a near-cycle with a triple, double, single, and a base-on-balls.

Teammates Santiago Quintero, DJ Valdes, Christian Ortiz, Daniel Guilamo, Francisco Molina, and Sergio Maldonado all had base hits in the contest in which O’Bryant prevailed by a score of 15-8.

The Red Devils will play a string of home games this coming week, starting with Hull tomorrow (Friday). Coach Rich Wilson and his Red Devils will entertain Nashoba Tech next Tuesday and Lynn Tech next Friday.

All of the games will start at 4:00.

CHS boys in close meet with Gr. Lowell

The Chelsea High boys outdoor track & field team came out on the short end of a 71-64 decision with Greater Lowell this past week.

Among the top performers for the Red Devils were: Justin Turner, who won the two-mile race in a time of 10:45; Jazmany Reyes, who captured the mile in 4:55.6; Julio Valladares, who outraced the field in the 800 in a time of 2:13; Jesus Matos in the triple jump with a landing of 30′-2″; Anthony Del Rosario with a toss of the shot put of 37′-3″; and Richard Flores with a discus throw of 101′-6″. 

Previously the Red Devils engaged with Northeast Regional and Mystic Valley in a tri-meet. Chelsea fell to Northeast, 81-55, but easily handled Mystic, 114-27.

Three Red Devils won their events against both rivals, Turner in the two-mile, Reyes in the mile, and Valladares in the 800.
