Genevieve Piasecki

Known as everyone’s “Babcia”

(Polish Grandmother)

Genevieve Piasecki of Nahant, formerly of Lynn and Chelsea, passed away on January 1 at the Jeffrey and Susan Brudnick Center for Living in Peabody where she was receiving supportive care.  She was 88 years old.

She was a resident of Nahant for the past 20 years, formerly of Lynn and originally from Chelsea, where she was born and raised in Chelsea,  one of seven children of the late John and Antonina (Grodzka) Nicewicz.  She attended St. Stanislaus Parochial School and graduated from Chelsea High School.

As a young lady she sang in her father and brother’s band the “White Eagles Polish Orchestra.”  She married Charles P. Piasecki in 1945 and they spent the next 64 years with love and devotion, together raising their daughter and son.

Genevieve worked outside of her home as a skilled seamstress in the Lynn Garment District and was a proud member and union representative with the International Ladies Garment Workers’ Union “IGLWU.”  She later worked as a bookkeeper in the business office at the Hogan Regional Center in Danvers before taking her full retirement.  She was a parishioner and communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Nahant.

Known and revered as everyone’s “Babcia” (polish grandmother), Genevieve loved to dance polkas and sew. She made clothes for her children and grandchildren, matching their outfits to their favorite dolls, cooking for family and friends delightful Polish pastries “Chrusciki” and other Polish specialties’.

Genevieve, who was widowed eight years ago, was preceded in death by all of her beloved siblings; her sister, Helen Smith and brothers; Alexander, Chester, Sigmund, Walter and Stanley Nicewicz. She was the devoted mother and mother-in-law of Jeanne C. Adamo of Nahant and her late husband, Richard, Charles Paisecki and his wife, Linda of Vergennes, VT; cherished grandmother “Babcie” of Jennifer and Matthew Grenier of Rowley, Elizabeth and Jeffrey Useman of Nashville, TN, Justin and Jill Piasecki of Gig Harbor, WA,  Dana and Melanie Piasecki of Charlotte, NC,  Joseph and Amy Piasecki of Bristol, VT.  She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were by the Anthony Memorial – Frank A. Welsh & Sons Funeral Home, Chelsea. Interment was in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nahant.
