Revere’s RoseLee Vincent cruised to victory Tuesday in the Primary Election for the 16th Suffolk District, which includes the Prattville area of Chelsea.
Vincent beat second-place finisher Linda Rosa, also of Revere, by 540 votes in a Special Election that featured extremely low voter turnouts. Vincent will face Chelsea Republican Todd Taylor in the April 1 General Election.
Though Chelsea’s Josh Monahan decidedly took the Chelsea areas in Prattville, he didn’t fare nearly as well in Revere where he faced an uphill battle against two veteran, entrenched Revere politicians.
The districtwide results, which included the western half of Revere and parts of Revere Beach, Prattville in Chelsea and two precincts in Saugus, were as follows:
•RoseLee Vincent – 1,154
•Linda Rosa – 614
•Josh Monahan – 504
Monahan finished with 277 votes in Chelsea, while Vincent had 75 and Rosa 46. However, in Revere he logged 181 votes and 46 in Saugus.
Vincent got her margin of victory via large numbers in Revere’s heaviest voting precincts that vote at St. Mary’s Church on Revere’s Washington Avenue. She also grabbed good returns from precincts on Revere Beach, including the Jack Satter House.
In Chelsea, the voter turnout was 13.5 percent, while Revere had 12 percent and Saugus 5 percent.
“I want to thank my family, friends and supporters for all of their help and encouragement over the past two months,” Monahan said after the election. “I worked to shake hands and talk to as many voters as I could in Chelsea, Revere and Saugus and spread my message of being a strong voice for our families and communities at the State House. Chelsea, Revere, and Saugus voters took the time to come out on a cold March day – taking pride in the democratic process and engaging in this fast-paced special primary. As a first-time candidate for public office, the learning curve was steep, but the lessons learned will help me as I continue to be an advocate for public safety along the North Shore. I’ve congratulated Democratic Nominee RoseLee Vincent on her victory and wished her the best of luck in the April 1st Special General Election.”
