Planning Board Recommends Veterans Housing Plan

The Chelsea Planning Board gave a positive recommendation for a plan by The Neighborhood Developers (TND) to locate a veterans services group home at 215 Shurtleff St. – the former American Legion building.

The 10-unit home with veterans services on site and a common kitchen in the basement, got the recommendation from the Planning Board that the City’s Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) grant a special permit at its Sept. 11th meeting.

City officials – from City Manager Jay Ash to several City Councillors – have given tacit approval to the plan – saying it’s poetic that the old veterans building would find a re-use serving veterans.

In other Planning Board action, Susan Marchese got a positive recommendation for a special permit to subdivide a residential lot on the corner of Stockton and Eastern Avenues.

Sprint Spectrum got a positive recommendation for a plan to replace existing cell phone antennae on top of the building at 255 Central Ave.
