State Police are investigating the fatal motorcycle crash last week that killed a Chelsea man after his bike tumbled off a portion of elevated highway on Route 1 that cuts through the city.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Robert Navas indicates that a 2001 Triumph motorcycle being operated by 40-year-old Cory White of Chelsea was traveling on the elevated portion of Route 1 North by Sixth Street in Chelsea last Wednesday evening when the motorcycle exited the roadway to the right before landing 30 feet below on Sixth Street in Chelsea.
White was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and troopers assigned to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Chelsea Police and Fire Departments, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the Department of Transportation’s Highway Division.
During the course of the crash investigation, the right travel lane was closed for approximately two hours. Traffic was delayed for several miles during the initial response of emergency personnel.
