Chelsea Fire Chief Chuck Fothergill has announced his retirement, which will be effective October 31.
Fothergill’s retirement came as a complete surprise to City Manager Jay Ash and to Fothergill’s colleagues in the fire department as well.
Fothergill was appointed chief late in 2007.
His late father Herbert was a Chelsea Fire Chief for three decades and ruled the fire department with an iron fist.
Chuck Fothergill has announced that his time has come.
City Manager Ash said that a successor to Fothergill has not been chosen.
