Five new Chelsea firefighters have been appointed utilizing Federal money.
Chief Chuck Fothergill found that Federal money and came to make good use of it.
By law, the city had to appoint these men from a rehire list, as those laid off are the first to be rehired.
Four rehires were approved from other departments – 3 from Lawrence and 1 from Malden.
The fifth is a Chelsea resident currently deployed in the armed forces and serving overseas.
By law, a spot must be held for that position – as well it should.
The Chelsea Fire Department remains at almost full manning.
With the recent rehires, the fire department is like a v-8 engine operating on all cylinders.
