One of this city’s true sporting legends died last week.
Lennie Lopes, for decades a force in local sporting circles, captain and player on some of this cities best softball teams to ever come down the line, was 88.
He was one of the best known and best liked sporting personalities in this cities modern history.
He was softly spoken. He was himself a good athlete in his day, and he seemed never to age and played with younger men well into his 60’s.
We offer a tip of the hat to Lennie – he was quite a guy.
And we offer his family our condolences.
