John Francis Callahan, 64
Brokerage Firm Accounting Officer
John Francis Callahan of Chelsea died at the Chelsea Soldier’s Home on August 28. He was 64 years old.
Born in Boston, he attended Bentley College, where he received his degrees in accounting and business management. He worked for most of his career as an accounting officer for a large Boston based brokerage firm. A US Army veteran of Vietnam, he was honorably discharged in 1969 and has been a resident at the Chelsea Soldier’s Home for the past 10 years.
His funeral services were held on Wednesday with a Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Fr. Patrick Healy, OMI, at St. Michael the Archangel Chapel, Chelsea. Services concluded with military honors and burial in the Chelsea Soldier’s Home Burial Lot at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. He leaves many friends and comrades at the home who mourn his loss and cherish his memory.

David Heard, 62
Baker
David R. Heard of Chelsea, formerly of Winthrop, died suddenly at the Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett on August 25. He was 62 years old.
A baker with Paci & Son, he was born in Melrose, son of the late Martha (Harris) and William Heard He lived in Winthrop prior to moving to Chelsea 24 years ago.
He was the beloved husband of Gloria (Lopez) and the dear brother of Ruth Heard of Brookfield, Pamela McCarthy of Winthrop, Claudia Rossetti of Revere, Thomas Heard of Chelsea and Terry Heard of Cambridge.

William Petricca, 83
Television repairman and salesman
William J. “Bill” Petricca of Chelsea died at home, surrounded by his loving family, on August 24, following a brief illness. He was 83 years old.
Born in East Boston, Mr. Petricca spent his early years living in Everett and was a graduate of Everett High School. He enlisted in the US Navy during World War II, was a member of the Navy Seabees and was honorably discharged with the rank of coxswain. He returned to Everett briefly and worked as a television repairman and salesman for D.A. Petricca TV and Appliances in Everett.
A resident of Chelsea for the past 45 years, he was a longtime parishioner of the former Our Lady of the Assumption Church. In recent years, he was a devoted supporter of St. Michael the Archangel Chapel at the Chelsea Soldier’s Home.
He was the beloved husband of 43 years of Regina L. (Cenga) Petricca of Chelsea; loving son of the late Natalino and Mary (Fioretti) Petricca; devoted father of Charles Gallagher and his wife, Jeanne, of Oklahoma, Regina Bellerose and her husband, David, of Maryland, John Gallagher and his wife, Maureen, of Beverly, Daniel Gallagher of Chelsea, Kathleen Murphy and her husband, Edmund, of Quincy, Joanne Aleo and her husband, Barry, of Tewksbury; dear brother of Frank, Daniel and Anthony Petricca, all of Everett, Carmella Shea of Lynn and Eleanor DeYeso of Saugus. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Michael the Archangel Chapel, 91 Crest Ave., Chelsea. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Frank A. Welsh and Sons Funeral Home.

Joseph Harkins, 71
Construction worker
Joseph “Joe” Francis Harkins, born in Chelsea and a lifelong Chelsea resident, died on August 29, following a brief illness. He was 71 years old.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed with Mac’s Construction and was a member of Local 22. He loved playing cards.
He was the husband of Phyllis (Williams) Harkins; father of Patricia Garceau of Fall River, Jean Harkins of Chelsea, Marguerite Lipinski of Erie, Pa., Joan Harkins of New Bedford and stepfather of Scott Williams of Methuen and Albert F. Hoey III of Winthrop; and the son of the late John and Rita (Griffin) Harkins. He is also survived by his aunt and uncle, Gracie and Mundo Martinello, of Prattville, 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Rev. Raymond Arsenault,
SM, 83
Marist Fathers Priest
The Rev. Raymond J. Arsenault SM, an ordained priest with the Marist Fathers in Framingham, died September 1 at St. Patrick Manor in Framingham. He was 83 years old.
Born in Chelsea, he was the son of the late Arthur and Alma Arsenault. His first profession into the Society of Mary came September 8, 1945. He did his theological studies at the Marist College. Father Arsenault was ordained on February 2, 1951. He was a chaplain at Massachusetts General Hospital while stationed at Our Lady of Victories Parish in Boston from 1952 to 1953 and again from 1955 to 1958; pastor and superior at Our Lady of Pity in Cambridge from 1968 to 1974, pastor and superior at St. Joseph’s Parish in Haverhill from 1975 until 1978; an administrator at Our Lady of Assumption in Chelsea from 1988 to 1990 and interim superior at the Provincial House in Cambridge. From 1990 to 1999, he was the provincial treasurer for the Boston Province and superior at the Marist House in Framingham. He also served in various other parishes, including Mt. Carmel in Methuen, St. John Parish, Brunswick, Maine, St. Bruno Parish in Van Buren, Maine, and St. Charles Parish in Providence, RI. For the last few years, he had been a senior resident at the Marist House in Framingham and on weekends served various parishes throughout the area.
Rev. Arsenault is survived by his siblings, Marie Cormier and Gloria Amorello, both of Chelsea, J. Howard Arsenault and his wife, Beverly, of Saugus, Marjorie Jaslowicz and her husband, Robert, of East Falmouth, Armand Arsenault and his wife, Doreen, of West Peabody, Joan Sarcia of Belmont, Carol Phillips and her husband, Jack, of Chelsea and Mark Arsenault and his wife, Karen, of York, Maine. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
His body will lie in state in Our Lady of Mercy Chapel at Marist House, 518 Pleasant Street, Framingham, today, Thursday, September 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. His funeral will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Bridget Church, Route 9, at Framingham Center. Committal prayers will take place at 2 p.m. in the Marist Fathers’ lot in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.

Nellie Bruno, 85
Retired Seamstress
Nellie Bruno of Port Richey, Florida, died on August 26 at Hernando-Pasco Hospice in Florida.
She was the beloved wife of the late Paul J. Bruno, with whom she shared 58 years of love and devotion. They were married in Italy on July 4, 1946 and lived in Chelsea, where she was a homemaker and seamstress. The couple purchased a home in Revere in 1960, and after her husband’s death in August 2004, she moved in with her daughter, Nancy Hopkins, and Dusty Morse in Port Richey.
She is also survived by a son, John Bruno, of Atlanta, Ga., and her grandchildren, Renee Hopkins of St. Augustine, Fla., Jane Gilman of Derry, NH, and Emily Bruno; a great-granddaughter, Anna Maria Bruno of Nashua, NH; her sister, Olga Magnolia, and her husband, Sebastian, of Wilmington and her nieces, Adrienne Mainville of Spencer, and Lisa Maffei of Wilmington; her brother-in-law, Joseph Bruno and his wife, Louise, of Revere, and their children, Joanne Salza of East Boston and Carol Gill of Winthrop. The family will hold a private service at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett on Saturday, September 26.

Jerry T. Zullo Jr. of Revere, formerly of Chelsea, died on September 1.
A US Air Force veteran, he was the beloved husband of Mary (Garrett) Zullo, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage; loving father of Jerry Zullo III and his wife, Joanne, Lisa Pesce and Helene Zullo, all of Revere; cherished grandfather of Christina, Noelle and Casandra Zullo and Michael and Ashley Pesce.

Dorothy (D’Amico) Schettino of Chelsea, formerly of Saugus, died on August 29.
She was the devoted wife of the late Angelo “Lefty” Schettino; beloved mother of Anthony J. Schettino of Salem, Virginia Eckman of Billerica and Clement V. Schettino of Saugus; sister of the late Carmella DiBlasi, Mary Serino, Phyllis Biseti, Carmen, Dominic, Joseph and Frank D’Amico; cherished grandmother of Ronald, Richard, Angela, Jon Marc, Angelo and Alexander; and she is also lovingly survived by her great-grandchildren, Melissa Ann and Adam Fortier and Ava and Julia Rose Eckman; and many nieces and nephews.

Joan M. (Hayden) Giannetto of Wakefield, formerly of Melrose, died on August 27.
She was the beloved wife of the late Nicholas J. Giannetto; devoted mother of John A. Giannetto of Melrose, Joan M. Julin of Minnesota, Anne-Marie Peterson and her husband, Roger, of Lake Forest, Calif., Dianne G. Giancarlo and her husband, Charlie, of Atherton, Calif. and Nancy A. Farnham and her late husband, Richard, of Wakefield; loving grandmother of Nicole Fossett, Christopher Farnham, Gianna and Marielle Giancarlo, Rosemarie Julin, Julianne and John A. Giannetto Jr., the late Andrea Julin; and her great-grandchildren; Leah and Robert Fossett, Andrew Giancarlo, Mikayla Farnham and Gino Davenport. She was the sister of June Mahoney of Chelsea.

William E. Bailey, PhD, JD of Admiral’s Hill, Chelsea, formerly of Boston’s Back Bay and Waltham, died on August 21, following a brief illness. He was 68 years old.
A US Marine veteran of the Vietnam War, he was born and raised in Waltham and was a graduate of Belmont Hill School, Harvard College, Harvard Law School and Union Institute and University. A Boston attorney, lecturer, educator, published author and nationally syndicated radio host, he was a former associate in the law offices of F. Lee Bailey and Hale & Dorr of Boston, past senior vice president and senior claims counsel for Commercial Union Insurance Co. of Boston. He was a pioneer in the field of education and practice of property/ casualty insurance and a recipient of the Golden Torch Award by the Insurance Marketing Communications Association for Enlightened Leadership and Innovation in Insurance Communications.
He was the beloved husband of 39 years of Irene M. (LaCentra); dear brother of Nancy C. Bailey of Admiral’s Hill, Chelsea, and Attorney F. Lee Bailey of Lynn; loving nephew of Lois Dewsnap of Nashua, NH and brother-in-law of Ricci A. LaCentra and his wife, Loretta C., of Point of Pines, Revere, and the late Robert A. LaCentra Jr.; cherished uncle of Ben Bailey of Rochester, Brian Bailey of Ventura, Calif., Scott Bailey of Atlanta, Ga., Scott Bergstrom of Phoenix, Ariz., Andrew Bergstrom of Baltimore, Md., Ricci A.
