We can’t choose the weather, but we can choose how we respond to it, and our team responded extremely well.

“I think we have the toughest, most resilient team in the GBL and it showed,” McCormick added. “We have a young team this year and I was impressed with their resolve and the performances they were able to put up given the conditions, so I am excited to see how we improve as the season goes on.”

Young CHS baseball working hard, will host two games next week

The Chelsea High School baseball team suffered a tough 14-1 loss to Greater Boston League rival Everett, but the score doesn’t tell the full story. Despite the final result, there were moments of promise and determination — particularly from starting pitcher Louis Soto, who battled through a challenging afternoon with poise.

“Louis showed flashes of potential, working efficiently on the mound and throwing strikes consistently,” said CHS head coach Mike Lush. “Though we struggled defensively, committing eight errors, Louis continued to compete and kept his head high throughout the game. His performance stood out as a bright spot in an otherwise difficult outing.”

Lush acknowledged the team’s struggles, especially in the field, but was quick to highlight the context behind the errors and the scoreline.

“This is a really young team,” said Lush. “More than half of our players have never played baseball before this season. They’re learning the fundamentals, adjusting to the speed of the game, and gaining experience every time they take the field.”

Lush emphasized that while the scoreboard didn’t favor Chelsea, the development happening behind the scenes is what truly matters at this stage of the season.

“I’m proud of the work these players are putting in every day,” Lush said. “They come to practice ready to learn, they’re giving effort, and they’re sticking together through the ups and downs. That’s all I can ask of them right now.”

As the Red Devils continue to grow and build chemistry, Lush and his coaching staff remain focused on laying the groundwork for long-term success. With more game experience and continued hard work, Chelsea hopes to turn the corner and become more competitive as the season progresses.

The Red Devils are scheduled to host two morning games during the holiday week: Lynn English on Monday and Lynn Classical on Wednesday. The opening pitch for both contests is set for 10:00 at Carter Park.
