The spring season for the 2024 Chelsea High athletic teams will swing into high gear in the coming week.
The CHS baseball team, under the direction of head coach Mike Lush, will toss out the opening pitch of 2024 this Monday when the Red Devils host non-league rival Brighton at Carter Park.
Chelsea will play a 19-game schedule with 14 contests with their seven Greater Boston League rivals (two games each vs. Somerville, Medford, Malden, Everett, Revere, Lynn Classical, and Lynn English) and five encounters with non-league foes Brighton, Tech Boston (2), Excel Academy, and Neighborhood House Charter Academy.
After Monday’s opener, Lush and his crew will make the short trip across the Parkway to meet Everett at Glendale Park on Wednesday afternoon.
Coach Gabriel Morales’s boys volleyball team also will open its season on Monday with a match against non-league rival Boston Latin. The Red Devils will engage in an 18-game schedule, 14 vs. their seven GBL opponents and four with non-league schools Boston Latin, Madison Park, Whittier Tech, and Randolph. They will play at Everett on Wednesday.
The CHS girls softball team, under new head coach Titus Manderson, will open its season next Wednesday (April 3), hosting GBL foe Everett. The Lady Red Devils will play 14 games vs. their seven GBL rivals and will meet non-league opponents Excel and Muniz Academy (2).
The boys and girls outdoor track and field teams will get their season going under new head coach Matthew McCormick on Tuesday at Lynn English.
And a new sport at Chelsea High, girls flag football, will debut this spring under the direction of coach Briana Scata.
