We wish to take a moment to offer our congratulations to Jay Seigal, who is retiring after serving for 33 years as a physical education teacher in the Chelsea school system.
Jay was also head coach of the Chelsea High boys basketball team for 13 seasons, guiding the Red Devils to 10 state tournament appearances and a number of Commonwealth Athletic Conference championships.
Prior to taking over the reins of the head basketball coaching position, Jay served for many years as an assistant on the staff of legendary CHS coach Jack Niven, for whom Jay (a grad of the CHS Class of 1976) played varsity basketball.
Jay, a Boston State College graduate, was inspired to get into the field of education by his father, Morrie, who served for 36 years in the Chelsea school system as a teacher and administrator and for 29 years as a member of the Chelsea School Committee. We know we join with all of our fellow residents, as well as the hundreds of CHS students whom Jay has taught over the years, in thanking him for his 33 years of service to our community and wishing him the best in his retirement years
