CHS Girls Track Splits Tri-Meet

The Chelsea High girls outdoor track and field team split its tri-meet with Greater Boston League (GBL) rivals Revere and Malden last Thursday at Chelsea Stadium.

Coach Cesar Hernandez’s Lady Red Devils defeated Malden, 75-60, but came up short against undefeated GBL champion Revere, 85-50.

Gizelle Rodriguez turned in a stellar performance. Gizelle led a Chelsea sweep in the long jump vs. Malden with a flight of 13’-7.5”. Gizelle also won the javelin against both opponents with a throw of 83’-10” and topped the entire field in the 400 dash with a time of 62.7.  She also took second vs. Malden and third vs. Revere in the 100 dash with a sprint of 13.8.  

Altogether, Rodriguez recorded 29 points on the day.

Dhalia Christmas led a Chelsea sweep in the shot-put against both the Lady Patriots and the Lady Golden Tornadoes with a throw of 28’-0”. Dhalia also took top spot in the discus vs. Malden and second place vs. Revere with a spin of 67’-0” to finish with 18 points on the day.

Jasmine Maradiaga was another stellar performer for Chelsea. Jasmine took first place vs. Malden and third place vs. Revere in the 400 hurdles with a clocking of 1:20.9; a third place in the high jump vs. Revere with a leap of 4’-2”; and second place vs. both foes in the 800 (2:51.2).

Valerie Ramirez also turned in a solid effort, taking second in the triple jump vs. both opponents with a landing of 26’-6” and second in the long jump (12’-6.75”) vs. Malden.

Kiara Ramirez took second in the shot-put (25’-11.5”) vs. both opponents and second in the discus vs. Malden (53’-11”).

Lamari Davis grabbed third (25’-8.5”) in the shot-put vs. all rivals.

Darily Sanchez took third in the long jump (12’-3.75”) vs. Malden and second in the 200 dash (29.8) vs. Malden.

Giselle Olivar defeated her Malden rivals in the 110 hurdles and took second vs. Revere with a clocking of 19.1. Giselle also added third-place points for Chelsea in the 800 (2:55.6) vs. both Revere and Malden.

Rosalinda Rojas won the mile vs. Revere and took second vs. Malden with a time of 6:47.5.

In the two-mile, Holly Hatleberg finished second vs. Revere and third vs. Malden with a clocking of 15:53.4.

Reina Moreira added a point for Chelsea vs. Revere with a third in the two mile run in 16:12.3.

Lauren Nadow took third spot in the 110 hurdles vs. Malden in a time of 22.0.

Hernandez and his crew will take on Medford today (Thursday) and then will host the GBL Meet this Monday at Chelsea Stadium.

CHS Boys Track Falls Short in Tri-Meet

Although the Chelsea High boys outdoor track and field team came up short to both Revere (99-37) and Malden (72-63) in a tri-meet at Chelsea Stadium last Thursday, a number of Red Devils turned in fine performances.

Emmanuel Simon won the long jump vs. Malden with a leap of 18’-8”, which also earned him a second vs. Revere. Emmanuel took top spot in the triple jump vs. Malden with a landing of 40’-9” and second vs. Revere. He finished in third vs. both opponents in the 100 dash (11.9). In the 200 dash, Emmanuel took second vs. Malden and third vs. Revere with a sprint of 24.5.

Emmanuel totaled 22 points on the day for his efforts.

Ali Warsame scored points in multiple events. Ali took third vs. Malden in the long jump (17’-1.5”); second vs. Malden and third vs. Revere in the triple jump (37’-9”); and second place vs. both opponents in the 400 dash (53.5).

Jeffrey Ponce topped the field in the shot-put with a throw of 41’-1”.

Teammate Henry Martinez grabbed second place vs. both foes in the shot with his toss of 36’-3”. 

Nate Nadow took first place vs. Malden in the 800 in 2:17.8, which also earned him a third vs. Revere. Nate also scored a point with a third-place effort vs. Malden in the 400 hurdles in 1:07.5.

Ian Padilla’s time of 11:44.6 in the two-mile run gave him a second-place finish vs. both Malden and Revere.

Carlos Jimenez Mora finished second vs. both rivals with a javelin throw of 109’-4”. 

Alexander Estrada finished second vs. Malden and third vs. Revere in the mile with a clocking of 5:07.6.

Alejandro Zepeda took third vs. Malden in the mile in 5:24.6 and Johnny Maldonado finished third vs. Revere in the two-mile run (12:42.4).

Gary Giron took second place vs. Malden in the 100 hurdles in 18.1.

Nasir Adams scored a point vs. Malden in the triple jump (32’-9”).
