Spring Sports Season Underway for CHS Teams

The 2022 spring sports swings into high gear this coming week for all three of the Chelsea High spring athletic programs.

The Red Devil baseball team, under the direction of head coach Mike Lush, will compete in a jamboree this Saturday at Malden Catholic before opening their season this Monday at Greater Boston League (GBL) rival Somerville.

Lush and his crew then will stay on the road for the first week of the season, making the short trek across the Parkway to Everett on Wednesday and traveling to non-league rival Boston International next Friday.

Coach Gena Restiano and the CHS softball team are hosting a pre-season jamboree this Saturday before opening the regular season on Monday when they will entertain GBL foe Somerville. They will host Everett on Wednesday and New Mission High next Friday.

Both the baseball and softball teams have an 18-game schedule, consisting of 14 games against their GBL rivals (two games each against Everett, Revere, Medford, Malden, Somerville, Lynn English, and Lynn Classical) and four contests vs. non-league foes.

The baseball team will meet Boston International twice and O’Bryant High of Boston and Winthrop one time each.

The softball team’s non-league opponents will be New Mission (two games) and O’Bryant and Winthrop.

Coach Cesar Hernandez and the CHS boys and girls track teams, who are coming off a highly-successful indoor season this past winter, will get their spring season off and running at GBL opponent Lynn English on Tuesday.

Hernandez and his crew will take on all seven of their GBL rivals during the season, concluding with the GBL Meet on May 26.
