The Chelsea Rotary Club will host a telethon to support Ukrainian humanitarian efforts.
“We’re fashioning a community response to the international crisis,” said Chelsea Rotary president, Todd Taylor. “With the livestreaming of the telethon, though, we hope to draw in contributors from around the country and around the world.”
The “Stand with Ukraine Telethon” will take place on Thursday, April 28th, from 4-7p. It will be livestreamed on Chelsea Rotary’s Facebook page and re-aired on Chelsea Community Cable Television.
“CCTV is pleased to be the broadcast partner for this wonderful event,” said Paula Batchelor, CCTV’s Executive Director. “We’re glad to be helping the Stand with Ukraine Telethon reach our local audience, and we’re thrilled to be helping to showcase Chelsea globally, all while raising money for such a great cause.
The Rotary telethon will feature local entertainment, guest interviews, and more, including local Rotarians answering the telephones to receive pledges, which will be displayed on a tote board.
“This is a great opportunity for all those who are appalled by the Russian invasion and its impact on the Ukrainian people to help support humanitarian efforts on the ground in the Ukraine and in the countries selflessly serving Ukrainian refugees,” said City Manager Tom Ambrosino, who has endorsed the telethon and, together with its Executive Director, Tracy Nowicki, is making the city’s Senior Center available to host the event.
“We all feel for the Ukrainian people, and this is a great way for all of us to join in solidarity to support their needs during these most traumatic times,” added Ambrosino.
More details on the telethon will be released in the coming days. In the meantime, those interested in filling five-minute entertainment slots on the telethon should contact Chelsea Rotary by email [email protected]. Tax deductible donations can be also pledged early be emailing the same address or mailing a donation to Chelsea Rotary Foundation, PO Box 505647, Chelsea, MA, 02150.
“This is what we do in Rotary, serve our community by supporting each other, all while having some fun,” said Taylor. “I hope all of Chelsea will log on and show the rest of the world how generous and caring we all are.”
