Veronica ‘Vera’ Butt
Lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Grace Church
Veronica “Vera” (Cronin) Butt passed away on Thursday morning, May 9 at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home on Lafayette Ave. She was just three days short of her 97th birthday.
Born, raised and a lifelong resident of Chelsea, she attended Chelsea Public Schools and graduated from Chelsea High School, Class of 1940.
Vera was the beloved wife of retired Chelsea Firefighter, W. Roy Butt. Together they shared 67 years of marriage before his passing in 2015. She was a homemaker who enjoyed tending to her home, her husband and her five children.
She was a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Grace Church in Chelsea. Over 96 years she participated in many of the Church’s functions and holiday gatherings. She was very active in the Church’s 1,000 Club.
Vera was also involved in the 1940 Class Reunion Committee. Most importantly, Vera enjoyed spending time with all of her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and her extended family at Our Lady of Grace Parish.
The Butt family would like
to thank Melanie Maynard who has been Vera’s friend and caregiver for many
years. They would also like to thank the staff and caretakers at the Cohen
Florence Levine Estates and more recently the staff at the Chelsea Jewish
Nursing Home on Lafayette Ave.
Vera was the devoted mother of Jane Frieden of Dorchester, Marie Washington and
her husband, Allan and Ellen M. Butt,
all of Chelsea, Karen E. Butt and her wife, Cynthia Brown of Newbury and Roy W.
Butt and his wife, Anna of Wakefield; dear sister of Anna Mae Rossi of Chelsea
and the late William J. Cronin and Catharine “Babe” Coyne. She is also survived
by four grandchildren: Elizabeth Frieden Garcia and her husband, Chris, Timothy
Frieden, Bryan Butt and Thomas Butt and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements were by the Anthony Memorial — Frank A. Welsh & Sons Funeral Home, Chelsea. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
