Chelsea K of C Gifts Our Lady of Grace Parish $125,000

On Sunday November 8, 2015 members of Chelsea Council #83 Knights of Columbus will gather, with their families and friends at Our Lady of Grace Church to celebrate a Mass of Remembrance.  The eleven o’clock Mass will be offered in the name of all deceased members and their families.

All past and present members and their families are welcomed to attend this mass at Our Lady of Grace Church, Nichols St. on the Chelsea/Everett line.

Chelsea Council #83 Knights of Columbus has been a very active part of the Chelsea community for more than 110 years.  The Knight of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic Fraternal Service Organization, and was founded in 1882 to help support the low-income Catholic immigrant community in Hartford, Connecticut and quickly spread throughout the US and internationally.

Recently the Chelsea Council learned that Our Lady of Grace parish, which has also serviced the local Catholic community for more than 100 years,  was in need of  funds to replace  the large retaining wall which supports the hill behind the church.  Repairs made in the past have failed, and the wall has reached a point where it must be completely replaced before it threatens the structural integrity of the church itself, a cost which was accessed to be in excess of $200,000.

Upon learning of the church’s plight the members of Chelsea Council #83, many of whom regularly attend Our Lady of Grace, or attended the parish school came together to pledge $125,000 to the church. Our Lady of Grace was established in 1913, and is currently led by Father James Barry, who has been with OLG for more than 20 years.
