Then and Now

Eleven years ago, Zulayka Hernandez of Chelsea appeared on the front page of the Chelsea Record. The caption over the photograph read: “Kid, you’re going to be a star.”

She was 3 at the time, a little girl filled with wonder and good feeling about the journey she was starting out on.

Eleven years have passed. Hernandez is now 14 years-old and she’s blossomed into a beautiful young woman.

Last month, she graduated from the Clark Avenue Middle School with the highest possible academic record.

She also received an award for good citizenship, for setting the right example and for maintaining an all A’s average and perfect attendance.

Truth be known, here’s another hard working, smart working, young Chelsea girl who wants to go to Harvard and who has said she will work with everything she has inside her to get there.

She is the daughter of Ismael Hernandez and Julie Abramofsky and is the grand daughter of David Dwyer and Diane Dwyer.

Good luck, Zulayka!
