Post-season Laurels for Cross Country Teams

The Chelsea High boys and girls cross country teams played a prominent role at the  Commonwealth Athletic Conference cross country banquet at Whittier Tech last Friday.  The boys received their dual meet championship trophy for finishing undefeated at 9-0.  Joseph Arroyo, Francisco Colindres, and Edgar Ocana received All-Conference plaques for finishing in the top 15 at the CAC All-League meet.

The girls also received their dual meet championship trophy for having their first ever undefeated season at 10-0.  Tatyana Almedia, Arandeni Ramos, and Duska Cvjetan all received All-Conference honors for finishing in the top 15 in the league meet.

CHS girls’ head coach Don Fay (who also coaches the boys)  received the “Coach of the Year”  award on the girls’ side.

“We had a terrific season,” said Fay. “Forty three athletes participated on this team and they all made it through the season.  Nobody quit or became academically ineligible.  We have only six seniors graduating, so hopefully next year we can continue the success.  Just three years ago the boys were winless and the girls had a tough time getting five girls (the required minimum) to the starting line.

“It was a great group of hard working, enthusiastic and motivated student athletes,” the coach continued. “I received a lot of compliments from other coaches and parents on how polite, respectful, and hard working our kids were.”
