CHS Girls Blast Gr. Lawrence, 9-0

After having their season opener rained out last week, the CHS girls soccer team opened up their 2011 campaign on the home turf against Greater Lawrence Monday afternoon. The Lady Red Devils dominated the contest,  cruising to a 9-0 victory. Five different Chelsea players scored their first goals of the season. Senior Zuleima Castillo led the way, reaching the back of the Greater Lawrence net four times. Sophomore Sarah Bourouis scored twice. Seniors Angelica Landaverde (who is back in action this season after a knee injury sidelined her last year), co-captain Elsa Nunez, and co-captain Loren Ramos also added one goal apiece.

“This year’s team is split between veteran players and girls who have never played organized soccer before,” said CHS head coach Kim Huffer, who has assumed the reigns of the girls’ team this year.  “The team is beginning to learn to play together on the field.  Their passion for the game of soccer is infectious. I’ve seen a huge improvement in the first few weeks and am looking forward to an exciting season.”

Huffer and crew were set to be back on the field yesterday against Minuteman Regional and will host two games next Wednesday and Thursday.
