The city’s Planning Board has approved initial plans submitted by officials of the Marriott Corporation for the construction of a Residence Inn to be located near to the Wyndham Hotel.
Plans call for a full -fledged Residence Inn, exactly the type of structure and business housed inside as depicted in the photograph accompanying this article.
“We have worked for this for almost 10 years and so we are all very pleased,” said City Manager Jay Ash.
Two weeks ago, Ash said Marriott coming here was ironic as they absolutely refused when he first introduced them to the city almost a decade ago.
Marriott officials estimate it will cost about $15 million to build and stock the new facility.
Next in line for Marriott is a trip to the Zoning Board for final approvals on necessary zoning changes which must be agreed to in order to secure the building permit.
