Red Devil volleyball team starts 3-0 vs. CAC foes

The Chelsea High volleyball team has opened the season with wins against three of its rivals in the Commonwealth Conference Small School Division, placing the Red Devils into first place and setting up a showdown with the lone CAC Small rival they have yet to face, Northeast Regional Vocational High this Tuesday.

Although the team has dropped five non league encounters, including a loss to Pope John on Friday, CHS head coach Lisa Ceccherini has been pleased with her young team’s performance thus far in the 2010 campaign.

“We only have four girls back from last year and only one of them is a senior, who is our Captain, Erin Kelley,” said Ceccherini. “We knew that with a young team we’d be lacking experience, but thus far we’ve done well against teams in our division.”

Ceccherini sung the praises of her captain, Kelley, who assumed the leadership mantle from before the season began.

“Erin has been on the varsity for three seasons and knew that the less experienced players would be looking up to her,” said the coach. “She has been a great role model for her teammates. She called pre season practices to get the team in shape and ready for the season. She has done everything a coach could ask of a captain.”

Ceccherini and her crew take on Whittier Tech today (Thursday) and then NE Voke on Tuesday.
