In neighboring Revere, the water crisis produced inertia and confusion.
The mayor was out of town. There were no reverse 911 calls and there was very little interaction between city agencies of a meaningful kind to deal with the crisis.
Here, City Manager Jay Ash revved up the city government to a full, high state of alert.
There were reverse 911 calls.
Police and fire officials, and the city’s public health officials were all conveying information to one another throughout the crisis.
The city’s Emergency Management team also went into full alert.
Bottom line – Chelsea came out of this crisis showing that it knows how to organize during an emergency.
It is another example of Chelsea setting the example instead of being an example of bad emergency management.
