In what police describe as a scene out of horror movie, Fire, Inspectional Service’s and Chelsea Police uncovered an illegal dental operation in a dirty Essex Street basement last Friday.
City Inspectors and Fire Investigators acting on an anonymous tip made to police responded to 97 Essex St. to investigate the complaint.
Once inside the basement, investigators observed a small partitioned area with dental instruments, blood evidence of a recent procedure and other evidence of a fully working dentist office.
Inspectors and Chelsea Officers were alarmed at the rudimentary equipment as well the unsanitary condition of the basement. City Health Officials are concerned of what types of medical procedures were performed in the unclean basement.
Police and City Health Officials are warning residents that these types of illegal operations cause a serious health risk to the public and should be reported immediately to authorities.
Police and City Inspectors investigating the case have no information on person/s that were operating the unlicensed operation and are working with tenants of the building and neighbors to identify those involved.
